Maine Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance Expands to Consent Education in Maine
Empowering Maine’s gym teachers and health educators
Empowering Educators in Northern Maine
When SafeBAE arrived at the conference in northern Maine, hosted by the Maine Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance, we felt the energy of educators eager to learn how to better support their students. Gym and health teachers gathered from across the state, ready to explore ways they could go beyond physical fitness to foster safer, healthier school environments.
These educators know that students often look to them as trusted mentors—especially when it comes to topics that might not be discussed elsewhere. SafeBAE’s presentation was all about giving them the tools to bring consent, boundaries, and healthy relationship skills into the classroom in a way that resonates. For us, it was an exciting moment to support educators who are passionate about making a difference, and who are so dedicated to ensuring their students feel safe and empowered in every aspect of their lives.
A New Chapter in Health Education: MAHPERD Welcomes SafeBAE
The Maine Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (MAHPERD) is dedicated to supporting educators who promote physical health, wellness, and fitness across Maine. Through workshops, conferences, and professional development, MAHPERD gives health and physical education teachers the tools to positively impact students’ lives.
SafeBAE’s presentation marked a unique moment for MAHPERD, where the focus expanded to include consent and relationship education—a shift that reflects the growing awareness of mental and emotional well-being as integral to students’ overall health. Consent and boundaries may not traditionally fall under physical education, but more and more, educators are recognizing their role in creating safe and supportive learning environments. By inviting SafeBAE to present, MAHPERD demonstrated a commitment to equipping its members with the resources needed to address these essential topics.
Bringing SafeBAE to More Schools and Youth Organizations in Maine
SafeBAE’s commitment to fostering safe, healthy relationships extends beyond students. Thanks to dedicated funding, we’re able to offer free presentations, workshops, and resources to schools and youth organizations across Maine, reaching not only students but also the teachers, administrators, and adult allies who play a crucial role in their lives. Whether it’s in classrooms, school-wide assemblies, or community programs, SafeBAE provides essential, age-appropriate education that empowers young people and equips adults with the tools to support them.
We invite schools, educators, and youth leaders throughout Maine to join us in this mission.
