SafeBAE Hosts It’s Giving Red Flags Premiere at Spelman College

A groundbreaking film, a teaching guide, and a powerful discussion—SafeBAE brings It’s Giving Red Flags to Spelman College

It’s Giving Red Flags Premieres Today at Spelman College

Today, SafeBAE will be hosting the premiere of It’s Giving Red Flags at Spelman College. Shot right here in Atlanta, the film explores the complexities of relationships through the lens of young people navigating boundaries, consent, and recognizing the warning signs of unhealthy dynamics. It’s a story that resonates deeply with so many, shedding light on the experiences often left out of mainstream conversations. And what better place to premiere it than at Spelman, a college rooted in empowering the next generation of leaders?

After the screening, the important conversation continues with a live panel featuring some of the film’s actors and it’s incredibly talented writer and director, Cheyenne Jacobs. Plus, attendees will have the chance to snag some #AsskFirst consent merch in a special giveaway.

As an organization that thrives on bringing people together, SafeBAE sees this event as more than just a premiere. It’s a chance to connect with new audiences, spark meaningful discussions, and continue the work of fostering safer communities everywhere.

Spelman College: The Perfect Place for This Conversation

The premiere of It’s Giving Red Flags at Spelman College is a powerful reflection of the values that both Spelman and Atlanta represent. With 90% of the crew made up of women, including its visionary director and cinematographer, both of whom are talented Black women, this film embodies the kind of representation and empowerment that Spelman has championed for over a century.

Atlanta also plays a key role in this story. As the city where It’s Giving Red Flags was filmed, Atlanta is woven into the very fabric of the film. Hosting the premiere here makes it a truly meaningful community moment, connecting the film’s message to the voices and experiences of the people who call this city home.

This partnership between SafeBAE, Spelman, and Atlanta highlights how powerful it is to bring conversations about relationships, boundaries, and respect to spaces that champion empowerment and inclusion. When we share these stories in a setting like Spelman, we’re not just showing a film—we’re creating a dialogue, rooted in community, about how we can build safer, healthier relationships and futures together.

Inspiring Change Through Storytelling

At its core, It’s Giving Red Flags is a call to action. By shining a light on the complexities of relationships and the importance of boundaries, the film aligns perfectly with SafeBAE’s mission to empower young people to advocate for themselves and others. Through storytelling, we can break down stigmas, spark important conversations, and encourage people to recognize and address harmful dynamics in their lives.

What makes this project even more impactful is its accompanying teaching guide, designed to help educators and students take the film’s lessons beyond the screen. The guide provides tools for discussing themes like red flags, consent, and healthy relationships in classrooms, youth groups, or even among peers. This resource bridges the gap between art and action, giving young people tangible ways to reflect and grow.

SafeBAE has always prioritized combining transmedia art with activism to visually educate and inspire young audiences. From films like It’s Giving Red Flags to our campaigns and social media initiatives, we’ve found that creative storytelling resonates deeply with young people. It’s a way to meet them where they are, using relatable and visually compelling content to spark meaningful change.
