Tonight we gather on the shore of an expansive ocean. The waves lap up in slow rhythm while we remember our fighters, who now live in peace. Now is the time to remember and to celebrate the joy and courage taught to us, a million lessons to never be forgotten. You see, sometimes life is like the ocean. Cold, stormy, and lonely. It takes true courage to sail away from safe ports and endeavor into waters unknown. Even more so when you sail into a storm, for the better of your community, your people. Yourself. Daisy and Melinda did just that. The light could be seen for miles and miles as they continued forward, and in turn, many of us followed. Let us celebrate their bravery, compassion, and love. Let us celebrate that they sailed into the harsh winds of activism in spite of all naysayers and setbacks. Their gentle souls brought so much light to what, at times seemed dark. And for that, we will never forget.
