Kicking Off Our Whole-School Approach with Alliance Public Schools in Los Angeles
Prevention doesn’t happen in a single lesson. That’s why we’re staying.
A Week of Momentum in Los Angeles
This week, we had the chance to do something we love most—show up for students, in person, and spark real conversations about preventing sexual violence in schools.
Over the course of just a few days, our team visited three different Alliance public school campuses across Los Angeles, where we met with hundreds of students who are about to become the next generation of peer leaders in this work. From passing out SafeBAE t-shirts and stickers to Thrive Causemetics gifts, to inviting students into our Summer Activist Institute—this trip wasn’t just a visit. It was an invitation.
We’re not just dropping into these schools for a single assembly. We’re partnering with Alliance Schools for the next three years to fully implement our Whole-School Approach to dating violence prevention. This week was our chance to kick that off—with student voices leading the way from day one.
What We Heard from Students
Every school visit reminded us why youth leadership is the core of SafeBAE’s work. At every stop, students showed up with questions, curiosity, and honesty. Some had already noticed unhealthy patterns in their communities. Others had never been invited into a real conversation about consent or boundaries until now.
More than a few stayed after our sessions—sharing stories, asking how to start clubs, or just wanting to talk about what they’ve seen at school but didn’t have the words for. That’s what this work is about: not just giving students information, but creating space where they feel safe enough to use it.
One student told us, “No one ever asked us if we wanted to lead this work. You’re the first.”
That moment alone? That’s the shift.
These conversations weren’t one-time moments. They were the beginning of a long-term partnership—one that will continue through SafeBAE chapters, peer educator trainings, and the full rollout of our Whole-School Approach across Alliance campuses.
Engaging Faculty & Building Long-Term Change
While students were the heart of this week’s visits, our conversations with faculty and staff were just as energizing. At several campuses, we met with school leadership to begin shaping what the next three years of our partnership will look like—and how our Whole-School Approach can be embedded beyond a single classroom or workshop.
We shared access to our curriculum, training materials, and strategies for integrating this work across departments—whether it’s woven into health class, advisory periods, or community-wide events. Teachers asked thoughtful questions about how to support student leaders, how to respond to disclosures, and how to keep prevention efforts going long after we leave the room.
This wasn’t a surface-level introduction. It was the groundwork for real cultural change. And we’re excited to return again and again—because true prevention doesn’t happen in a day. It happens in collaboration, in follow-through, and in a shared commitment to showing up for students every step of the way.
This Is Just the Beginning
Our visit to Alliance Schools wasn’t a one-time stop—it was the beginning of something much bigger.
Over the next three years, we’ll be working closely with these campuses to fully implement our Whole-School Approach to dating violence prevention. That means training educators, supporting student-led SafeBAE chapters, and making sure conversations about consent, boundaries, and healthy relationships are happening everywhere—not just in health class.
We’re so grateful to the students who opened up, showed up, and got excited about leading this work. And to the educators who met with us, asked big questions, and are already helping shape what this partnership will become.
